The millennium (also known as the millennial reign) is the 1,000-year reign of Jesus after the tribulation and before the Great White Throne Judgment of the wicked. During the millennium, Jesus will visibly reign and be in power as king over Israel and all the nations of the world (Isaiah 2:4; 42:1). The world will live in peace (Isaiah 11:6–9; 32:18), Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:1–6), and, at the beginning, everyone will worship God (Isaiah 2:2–3). The purpose of the 1,000-year reign is to fulfill various promises God made to the world. Some of these promises, called covenants, were given specifically to Israel. The Millennium is a thousand-year reign of peace, and the Lord Jesus Christ will be King. Others were given to Jesus, the nations of the world, and creation. Jesus’ 1,000-year reign will be a time of promises kept.
The word mille means “a thousand” so the millennium is “a thousand years.”
HERE'S THE BREAKDOWN:
Jesus will return to earth (this is called the Second Coming).
He will defeat evil (like Satan and his forces).
Jesus will rule for 1,000 years with his people — those who believed in Him and followed Him.
During this time, the world will experience peace, justice, and righteousness like never before.
Satan will be chained and unable to deceive people during this period.
At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be released for a short time, but ultimately defeated forever.(Rev 20:6-8)
WHO SHALL REIGN WITH JESUS? Believers who were faithful to Him — they will have special roles like kings, priests, and judges during the Millennial Reign.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
- It shows that God’s promises of peace, restoration, and justice will truly happen.
- It gives believers hope that no matter how hard life gets now, a beautiful future with Christ is coming.
