Speaking in tongues is done by Faith.

Seventy percent of Christians don't speak in tongues because ‘‘It just doesn't feel right’’ Well... It doesn't need to feel right to be done. It's just like a Christian who doesn't feel like he's saved from sin after believing and confessing Jesus as Lord. It really doesn't matter how you feel but what the word of God says. Because the devil can bring feelings. In Mark 16:17 and 18 Jesus clearly says that those who believe in Him will speak with new tongues. So a Christian should speak in tongues by making the utterance and allowing the spirit of God to feel your mouth.

The way you have Faith that you're going to Heaven, that is how you must believe that you're communicating with God when speaking in tongues.

Speaking in tongues is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and He gives different gifts to each believer as He chooses (1 Corinthians 12:10-11). Therefore, we need not prioritize one gift over the other. Anyone who believes can be given any gift, and not necessarily speaking in tongues. God's Spirit decides which gift to give, and His decision remains unquestionable. True believers who cannot speak in tongues should not be regarded as those who lack faith, they definitely have other spiritual gifts they've received from God for the edification of the Church.

Above all, speaking in tongues is for self edification, and really has no benefit to the Church. Little wonder, apostle Paul admonished the Christians in Corinth to pursue love and desire the gift of prophecy as one which will help other Christians grow in faith (1 Corinthians 14).

Shalom!
