JOSHUA'S DIARY
As Palti and Nahbi spoke eloquently, teaching our people to fear, I felt my heart break. Didn't we all see the same thing? Didn't they see the abundance in the land? Didn't they see the defeat already painted on the faces of the children of Jericho?
"Stop it!" Caleb shouted, obviously as distressed and enraged as I felt.
"Why lie? Why twist the truth because of your personal weakness? Why cause our people to fear? Don't you believe the Lord?" He queried, but Nahbi and his group hardened their hearts, determined to declare doom.
Doom they declared, and doom our people believed. And with one voice, they spoke death upon themselves.
Together, of one mind, Caleb and I placed our hands at the top of our shirts and tore them in agony; swearing before the God we were taught to serve that the land was ripe for the taking.
But our people; mothers and fathers who raised us; uncles and aunties who taught us to serve Yahweh; friends with whom we learnt the commandments together, picked up stones to put us to death.
It took the intervention of the glory of the Lord in the tabernacle to save our lives. And at that moment, I realized that Yahweh heard everything; He saw everything; and He took note.
